History

The Department history

Department of human and animal physiology as an independent unit was established in 1966, as a result of the division of the Zoology Department into 2 departments: zoology and physiology of man and animals. Since its inception and up to 1973 the Department was headed by Professor, PhD Paulina Semenovna Kravica.

Initially, when in 1966 was organized  the  Physiology Department, was only one teacher Doctor of Medicine, Professor Kravitskaya P.S. In 1961 P. S. Kravitskaya defended the dissertation on competition of a scientific degree of the doctor of medical Sciences.

Kravitskaya P.S with students

The rest of the teachers did not have academic degrees. By the opening of the university, in 1969 K.I. Kulzhanova defended her thesis for a Candidate of Science, in the direction of Ph.D. H.Zh. Aubakirova in the 80 years, already at the department worked 1 doctor of medical sciences, professor, 4 candidates of biological sciences.

In 1960-1970 years, the Department read subjects such as “Human Anatomy”, “Human Physiology and animals”. Since 1983, were introduced discipline pedagogical cycle “Age physiology and school hygiene”, which is read in all pedagogical specialties of the university faculties. Since 1990, the Department staff reads the discipline “Basics of life safety” in all faculties.

The Department had a specialized study of “Human Anatomy”, which presented models, wet preparations of all organs, tables, tablets, and posters. The Department had an operating room that was equipped with the necessary instruments, surgical instruments, drugs for animal experiments. In addition, there was organized a vivarium, which included dogs, Guinea pigs, rats and frogs, which received the order from different cities, for example, frogs were obtained from the city of Frunze (current Bishkek). In the vivarium there were 2 specialized rooms: 1) operating (for animal experiments), 2) anatomical room (for working with cadaveric material).

In 1965 the Zoology Department, majoring in physiology, established the graduate school under the leadership of P. S. Kravitskaya 11 persons defended candidate’s dissertation: Ph.D. L.A. Savkiv, G.I. Baranova, S.S. Beysenova, T.O. Bekmaganbetov, etc. They work in the universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

P.S. Kravitskaya as Dean and head of the Department of the faculty paid great attention to scientific research and teaching work.

For active participation in scientific-pedagogical and the educational and social life of the faculty and the University, training specialists, P.S. Kravitskaya was awarded the medal “For valiant labor” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lenin’s birth. P.S. Kravitskaya in the early days participated in the great Patriotic war, medal “For valiant labor in the great Patriotic war”.

In 1973-1979 Physiology Department of human and animal was headed by Candidate of Biological Sciences., Аssociate Professor K. I. Kulzhanova. Under her leadership, the faculty was organized by the “Anatomical Museum”.

The discussion of research results with  Doctor of Biological Science, Baranova T. I. senior researcher of  Research Institute of Physiology named A. A. Ukhtomsky, Saint – Petersburg State University

The aim of the project: assessment and prediction of health status and functional reserves of the students of the industrial regions with unfavorable environmental conditions in the modern stress factors and implementing remedial technologies for enhancing the adaptive potential of using cold – hypoxic – hypercapnic exposure.

Main task: conduct a comprehensive examination of students: the biochemical and functional parameters to identify an objective picture of adaptive changes in the body; study of functional parameters of the cardiorespiratory, nervous and hormonal systems, reflecting the level of activation of mechanisms of adaptation, the degree of maladaptation and the possible exhaustion of adaptive reserves of the body; the methodological basis for efficient monitoring, evaluation of the condition of the body, as well as recovery of the population from ecologically unfavorable regions with the correction of technology to enhance adaptive capacity.

To solve the set task was picked 4 representative group of students from ecologically unfavorable regions of the Karaganda region (Karaganda, Karkaralinsk, s. Egindybulak, Balkhash) for the study and correction of adaptive capacity (cold – hypoxic – hypercapnic effect).

Student research are conducted on a computerized complex for the analysis of heart rate variability “Varicard”.

In June 2011 Baranova T. I., Doctor of Biological Science, Senior researcher of the laboratory of structural and functional adaptations of the chair of General physiology in the biology faculty, Research Institute of Physiology named A. A. Ukhtomsky and staff of educational – research laboratory “Ecological and genetic studies” conducted joint research and results on implementation of remedial technologies to improve adaptive capacity (cold – hypoxic – hypercapnic effect).
